My Years on the Front Line.

I am Graham Johnson, the founder of Vetting Hub.

For eighteen years, my work sat at the centre of UK employment screening and vetting. I built and ran a specialist screening business National Vetting Solutions UK Ltd from the ground up, working closely with organisations in sectors where mistakes carry serious consequences, including security, healthcare, financial services, education and government.

Across that time, I was responsible not only for delivering checks, but for designing screening processes, handling adverse and complex cases, responding to audits, and explaining decisions under scrutiny.

I saw first‑hand how screening decisions are judged after the event, not by whether a checklist was followed, but by whether reasoning, proportionality and governance could be demonstrated.

Alongside operational delivery, I trained internal teams and client organisations so they understood not just what checks were required, but why they mattered, how standards were applied in practice, and where responsibility sat when decisions went wrong.

Why I Built Charlotte

I built Charlotte because I repeatedly saw the same problem play out over many years of screening and vetting work.

A question comes up under time pressure. Someone needs to make a decision quickly. The guidance is available, but it is dense, unclear, or open to interpretation. There is no one immediately available to talk it through, so a judgement is made based on assumption rather than certainty.

Sometimes that decision holds up. Other times it does not.

When it goes wrong, the consequences arrive later. Audit findings. Compliance breaches. Regulatory attention. Disputes. In some cases, individuals placed into roles they should never have occupied. Rarely because anyone meant harm, but because the right guidance was not accessible at the moment it was needed.

Charlotte exists to remove that gap. She brings practical screening, vetting and risk guidance into the point where decisions are actually made, so organisations are not left relying on guesswork when the stakes are high.
